Water Softener Leaks and Drain Problems: What to Tell the Repair Provider
Locate the observed water
Without opening a pressurized component, note whether water appears at the supply connection, control head, mineral tank, brine tank or discharge point. Report continuous drain flow separately from a leaking line. Photos can help distinguish the observed location from an assumed cause.
Describe the timing
Does the leak occur during normal use, regeneration or tank refill? Was there recent service, a filter change or a plumbing interruption? That sequence can change which seals, fittings, valves or cycle stages need attention.
Protect people and property
If a situation involves electrical exposure or uncontrolled water, avoid contact and use a known accessible shutoff only when it is safe to do so. Ask for equipment-specific isolation guidance. A website cannot identify a safe valve position from a general symptom description.
Ask what the quote covers
Clarify whether the scope includes the damaged component, supporting connections, drain receiving point and operating checks. Water cleanup and restoration may be separate work. A patched fitting does not explain why an overflow occurred.
