Water Softener Maintenance: Salt, Settings and Regeneration Checks
Use the exact model instructions
Start a record with the valve and tank information, current settings and service dates. Different equipment can use different parts and procedures. An internet checklist should help you ask useful questions, not replace the manufacturer instructions.
Observe salt and tank conditions
Note changes in salt use, a crust over an empty space or compacted material near the bottom. Adding bags does not diagnose a bridge, mushing or failed brine draw. Ask which product and loading practice suits the specific unit.
Watch regeneration behavior
Record cycle timing, error messages and unexpected drain flow. A manual cycle is not proof that demand sensing and normal triggering work. If symptoms follow a power interruption, report the sequence before changing several settings at once.
Measure performance
Where appropriate, compare incoming and treated hardness and consider changes in household demand. Hardness readings do not establish comprehensive drinking-water safety. Different concerns call for different assessment and testing.
Choose maintenance or repair
Use maintenance for planned service and regeneration repair for a specific fault. Call (323) 916-2854 to discuss your equipment and address.
